Baidu announced that Toshi Inoue is the new CEO of Baidu Japan back in August 2008.

My take? It is #6, with the fact that the top search in Japan is not G.

Thanks Piet for your quote! I heard so many times the "languages are quite similar" for Chinese and Japanese. Well, I speak both in addition English, and the only communality between Chinese and Japanese are the set of almost similar Chinese characters. They don't read the same, don't exactly write the same and more important the grammar is totally different - this without mentioning the extra two alphabets (hiragana / katakana). My feeling in terms of linguistics (though not being a qualified authority) is that grammar is way more important than writing for semantic search. But this language thing is likely more an "easy sell" for investors than the real Baidu opinion.
